Fall Countdown to the Trip
Published by Patrick at November 1st, 2009My family is made up of hunters. From the time they were tots they would watch for animal trails, watch for active signs of wildlife and work at removing “people” signs such as trash on the trails. This also has made them avid environmentalists. You can’t manage animals that aren’t there! We only shoot for food, the antlers get used for art but you won’t find them on my walls. We use every bit we can from them. We donate the hides to a veterans organization that tans them and then uses the leather for various projects at the VA hospital.
Each Halloween starts the count down to the “TRIP”, first the totes are tallied and food supplies inventoried and the truck gets loaded. My dad and youngest brother head to the mountains to make camp. My brother will come home and go to school all week and Friday will head back to camp. When we are in country, my other brother and I join them on Saturday, our sister and brother in law join us when they can. My mom has created over the years checklists that she pulls out and we know that between Dad’s menu lists and her checklists that we will have everything we need.
